Heart
In China and Japan, the character for heart includes the notion of mind as well. In Classical Chinese medicine, the heart is considered the ruler of one’s personal kingdom of body, mind, and spirit. It is considered the sacred vessel of each being, responsible for controlling the Heaven and Earth exchange. If we can master the art of bringing our deepest human potential into accord with our highest spiritual aspirations, we have accomplished joining Heaven and Earth and manifest the art of the heart. Chogyam Trungpa, founder of Naropa University, spoke often of our ruling heart needing to be soft and tender, vulnerable and broken. |
