Why color? I do five Element Healing. I am trained as a Five Element Acupuncturist to diagnose imbalances of body, mind, and spirit through, among other things, the colors on the face. Indeed, we see this in the health and cycles of nature; a leaf in bud is bright yellowy sap green, at full bloom richer and darker, and as it withers in the fall, often turns brilliant red signaling its return to the roots. I revere the subtle colors within the traditional black of ink, and the line and form in calligraphy already holds the play, dance, and brilliant pattern of energies. As a Western painter, and a healer who observes color to diagnose a person’s highest potential and deepest wound, I find adding color to calligraphy irresistible.
